Advocate Megan Smith has been working in early childhood education for nine years, but as she shares with us, she’s always been drawn to do more. To take her passion a step further, Megan traveled to Washington, D.C. from Kansas to attend our annual Advocacy Summit earlier this year.
“When given the opportunity to learn about how to advocate for early childhood programs, I jumped at the chance,” she says. “I have seen first-hand the growth children can make when they are provided an early education.”
After attending the Advocacy Summit, Megan was motivated to put her advocacy skills to use. She tabled at a local farmer’s market, hosted informational sessions and set up a community Facebook page to connect with folks with the same interest. To top it all off, she enrolled to go back to school for a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Public Policy and Advocacy.
“Ultimately, I want to let people know the importance of early childhood education programs and what a difference those programs can make in a child’s life,” she says.
