Laurin Bixby, a Student Ambassador from Furman University in South Carolina, knows why it’s important to advocate for what you believe in. At 15 years old, she became very sick and lost the ability to walk or speak. She says the inability to be heard is what drove her toward advocacy. Now physically recovered and a junior in college, Laurin has been a SCAN advocate for about two years. From early childhood education to maternal, newborn, and child survival, Laurin has used her voice for those who can’t use theirs. As Laurin reminds us, no effort to spread awareness goes unnoticed. It all makes a difference.
