Photo Recap: Advocacy Summit 2018

Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) has dedicated advocates all across the U.S. Every year, many of them travel to Washington D.C. for three days to attend the Save the Children and SCAN Advocacy Summit.

This week, more than 250 advocates from 30 states attended the Summit, sponsored by Johnson & Johnson, to receive in-depth advocacy training and urge lawmakers to invest in kids. The advocates – which included 75 high school and college students – met with more than 150 lawmakers and members of their staff from both parties and urged them to make key investments in early childhood education in the U.S. and maternal, newborn and child survival programs overseas. During the event, Save the Children and SCAN honored Senators Patty Murray (D-WA) and Angus King (I-ME), and Congressmen Kevin Yoder (R-KS) and Hal Rogers (R-KY) with the Champions for Children award.

In addition to the Congressional awards, SCAN also honored two outstanding individuals who have spent the past year tirelessly advocating for kids in their communities, in the U.S. and around the world. SCAN honored Chaudron Zeger as Advocate of the Year and Hillary Johnson as the Student Advocate of the Year.

SCAN is proud of the passion, determination and joy its advocates brought to D.C. Together, we can continue to make a difference for kids in the U.S. and around the world!
