Election Day Victory for Kids!

Last night, children across the U.S. scored huge wins. Thanks to our volunteers, we were able to bring attention to critical kids’ issues like quality preschool and child care. And through our advocacy, we were able to elect leaders who will prioritize kids!

SCAN-endorsed gubernatorial candidates Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-NM), Gov. Gina Raimondo (D-RI) and Gov. Phil Scott (R-VT) all won last night on platforms of significantly expanding early childhood education in their states.

In each race, we educated voters about the candidates’ ambitious plans for helping children with mail pieces, broadcast and digital ads. Our staff, volunteers and supporters will soon be working side-by-side with these administrations to help expand early learning programs, like affordable child care and universal preschool.

We also won in Seattle, where voters passed Proposition 1, which would provide more funding for preschool programs for kids living in poverty. Our volunteers in Seattle knocked on doors, called voters and wrote letters to the editor to help persuade the public that this investment in kids was worth making.

Advocates in Seattle “honked and waved” to garner support for Proposition 1.

Volunteers across the country also worked hard leading up to the election by approaching candidates to ask how they would invest in kids if they were elected. From gubernatorial candidates to state lawmakers to congressional candidates, volunteers in our High 5 for Kids campaign showed up nearly 150 times to show candidates that kids should be a priority. One such advocate was Nanette Arnold from Tennessee, who had never attended a candidate event before, but hit the campaign trail to ask candidates about their plans to invest in early education.

Now, as the dust settles from last night’s results, it’s clear that with the help of our fabulous supporters, we can continue to strengthen our voice for kids. Together, we can transform the lives of children for the long term!

Learn how we can hold these leaders accountable to invest in kids!
