Weekly Wisdom: Ending Preventable Deaths

Every day, more than 15,000 kids don’t live to see their 5th birthday. Every day 7,000 newborns die. And every day, 800 women are dying due to complications during pregnancy and childbirth. Why are so many moms and babies dying? Diseases like pneumonia, diarrhea and malaria are to blame – and they are all preventable. In order to end these deaths for good, we must step up and help mothers and children get the care they need. This means creating greater access to health services, training health workers and educating the public. Let’s make sure the U.S. continues to demonstrate strong moral leadership to end these preventable deaths for good!
