Photo Journey: We All Care for Child Care

Do you care about child care? We sure do and so do our volunteers! In fact, last week, we organized a week of action across the country to advocate for high-quality child care. Our volunteers organized more than 65 events and activities across 28 states to raise support for the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG), which provides funding to states to expand high-quality child care to low- and middle-income working families. Some of the activities our volunteers organized included setting up a table at college campuses to educate students, hosting postcard parties and screening the documentary No Small Matter. You can relive the action by browsing through our photo journey!

We kicked off our weeklong events from the home of the Kentucky Derby, where we raised our voices to invest in kids and child care.

Volunteer Marin Dugal and Richwoods High School Student Ambassador Lindsey Ryan met with U.S. Representative Darin LaHood in Peoria, Illinois to talk about the lack of child care and early childhood education programs in rural areas and how we can work together to invest in kids.

Student Ambassadors from Morningside College organized a film screening of No Small Matter in Sioux City, Iowa. Volunteers, the assistant superintendent for Sioux City Public schools and representatives from Head Start were all in attendance!

Kids Campus at Santa Fe Community College in New Mexico also hosted a screening of No Small Matter. Together, these advocates learned about the importance of early learning.

Students at Colby-Sawyer College in New Hampshire got in on the action, too! They hosted a tabling on campus to collect post cards in support of CCDBG funding to deliver to Senator Shaheen.

Volunteer Brenda Tyler made a visit to a Head Start program in Hector, Arkansas where she met with teacher Kari Sutton to show they care about child care.

At the University of Washington in Seattle, SCAN co-hosted a panel discussion with Child Care Aware of Washington. The panel was comprised of field experts who weighed in on the importance of expanding child care services. Advocates also watched a film screening of No Small Matter.

If you care about child care, here’s how you can raise your voice!
