As your constituent, I urge you to support Governor Sununu’s plan to include $18 million in the state budget for targeted full-day kindergarten support.
Like the 70% of New Hampshire voters who agree funding for full-day kindergarten should be a top budget priority, I want to make sure the kids in our town have an equal opportunity to succeed. Full-day kindergarten is important in closing the achievement gap and providing a solid foundation of learning to children from all backgrounds. Early childhood programs such as high-quality full-day kindergarten have been shown to result in lasting gains in academic achievement, increased graduation rates and reduced crime rates.
It’s also good for New Hampshire’s economy—new research by Nobel Laureate economist Dr. James J. Heckman shows that high-quality early learning programs can deliver a return on investment of 13 percent for every $1 spent per child, per year through better outcomes in education, health and employment.
Please invest in New Hampshire’s kids by supporting Governor Sununu’s plan to increase resources for full-day kindergarten—it’s a smart investment for our families, our town and the future of our state.
