From South Carolina to Iowa and New Hampshire, Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) advocates are making sure that 2020 presidential candidates are committed to investing in kids! As part of our High 5 for Kids campaign, our dedicated volunteers have engaged presidential candidates at more than 150 events and asked them how they planned to prioritize early learning – like child care and preschool –during their presidency.

So what are we asking for? We started by asking what the candidates’ plans were for expanding early childhood education. As nearly all of the candidates rolled out their early learning plans, our army of volunteers began to ask if they would prioritize early education during the first 100 days of their presidency.

The result? So far, 4 leading candidates have pledged to invest in early childhood education within their first 100 days in office!

Check out some of the responses we’ve gotten from some of the Democratic presidential candidates leading in the polls:

	Former Vice President Joe Biden  The former VP has met with our advocates on multiple occasions. The first time we spoke with him, he spoke about the importance of home visiting programs. A few weeks ago, he committed to invest in kids during his first 100 days in office.
	Senator Bernie Sanders  Our advocates spoke with the Vermont Senator twice in New Hampshire. Both times, he reiterated the importance of early childhood education and committed to making it a priority for his potential administration.
	Senator Elizabeth Warren  Volunteers also met with Senator Warren in New Hampshire on multiple occasions. At the most recent event, she gave a detailed plan on how she would invest in kids during her first 100 days in office.
	Senator Cory Booker  SCAN volunteers have repeatedly met with Senator Booker in Iowa and South Carolina. Sen. Booker has also pledged to invest in kids during his first 100 days in office.
	Mayor Pete Buttigieg The mayor of South Bend has also met SCAN volunteers in New Hampshire at different events. At the most recent encounter, Mayor Buttigieg committed to invest in early learning during his first 100 days in office.
	Senator Amy Klobuchar The senator met with SCAN advocates in 3 states. In Iowa, she spoke about the importance of early childhood education and high quality child care, and how she would invest in those programs if she was elected.

 

These are just a few of the candidates SCAN has met on the road! No matter who wins in 2020, SCAN advocates will continue to be a voice for kids. While they are too young to vote now, investing in children is the best way to ensure a strong nation for years to come.
